Most visit visa categories — tourist, family, business, government and medical treatment — are valid for 3 months (90 days) from the date of entry under the executive by-laws that took effect in late 2025.
Visit visa fees — the KD 10/month rule
Kuwait's late-2025 residency law reform standardized visit visa fees across almost all categories: a flat KD 10 per month applies to all types of visit visas — tourism, family, business, medical treatment and multiple-entry. This means a standard 3-month visit visa costs KD 30 total in government fees, separate from any e-visa processing charge.

How to apply — e-Visa vs Visa on Arrival vs Embassy
- e-Visa (most nationalities): apply online via the official portal at kuwaitvisa.moi.gov.kw. Upload your passport scan, photo, and any required invitation/sponsor documents, pay online, and receive your e-visa by email — typically within a few business days.
- Visa on Arrival: available for citizens of the US, UK, EU/Schengen countries, and — since August 2025 — GCC residents with 6+ months of GCC residency remaining. Processed directly at Kuwait's ports of entry.
- Embassy application: required for nationalities not eligible for e-visa or visa on arrival, or for those travelling by land/sea rather than air.

Documents you'll need
- Valid passport — at least 6 months validity from your date of entry
- Recent passport-size photo, clear background
- Completed and signed visa application form
- Confirmed round-trip ticket / travel itinerary
- Proof of accommodation (hotel booking or host details for family visits)
- Sponsor documents where applicable — a relative's residency/Civil ID copy for family visits, or a company invitation letter for business visits
- Proof of health insurance — required since the December 2025 reforms; short-term visitors cannot access Kuwait's public healthcare system, so this matters even where not strictly checked at entry
Extending your visit visa
Visit visas can be extended once for a similar period — so a standard 3-month visa can be extended for another 3 months, giving a maximum total stay of 6 months on a visit basis. Extensions cost the same KD 10/month fee as the original visa.
Beyond that, staying longer falls under Temporary Residency (Article 14) — a separate category for those planning to leave Kuwait permanently, urgent cases assessed by the Residency Affairs Department, or those converting from a visit visa. Temporary Residency is valid for 3 months and can be renewed for similar periods up to a maximum of 1 year total, at KD 10/month (KD 5/month for domestic helpers).
Converting a visit visa to residency
The updated by-laws clarify that in certain cases — including for those who arrived on family visit visas — a visit visa can be converted into full residency without needing to exit and re-enter Kuwait. This generally requires meeting the standard residency conditions: a valid sponsor, health insurance, and (for family sponsorship specifically) the sponsor meeting the KD 800/month minimum salary threshold. Looking ahead — GCC Grand Tours unified visa
Kuwait is part of the proposed "GCC Grand Tours" Unified Tourist Visa — a single visa intended to grant access across all GCC member states. As of early-to-mid 2026 this remains in development, with expectations pointing toward a launch sometime in 2026. This is not yet active — check official channels before assuming it applies to your trip.
